Wars Inevitable result.
War. A violent bloodbath between nations, a gamble of the lives of millions of friends. War, something i never thought could happen to my country. But it has. All i know, is that im safe, far from the battlefield, out of the way of our brave soldiers.
A cloudy day. Normally, the days are filled with white puffy clouds damping the shiny sun. But today is different. Clouds were stained gray, the air felt heavy, and the sun, barely visible. It was your typical warning of imminent downpour. But something felt off. It was smoke from the battlefield of death.
Despite this suspicious smoke lazily drifting the sky, i was offered to play basketball with my cousin. We arrived at the park we usually play in. It wasn't far from home. We could always run back home if it rained. With that in mind, we were able to play basketball without worries. But we missed most of our shots. This wasn't normal. We thought it was the heavy smoke causing this phenomenon.
" Hey, i think this is is no fun if we keep missing like this" my cousin said, in a very depressed tone.
" Yeah, i guess your right" I replied immediately. " 'Ey, how 'bout you come over my house? Hang out and crap".
" Alright! Lets go! I've had enough of this crappy failure" replying in delight.
We walked a few blocks to reach my house. We also noticed how empty the neighborhood was. Thinking back, i think we haven't seen anyone since this morning. It was COMPLETELY empty. No one visible except for me and my cousin. Freaky, but it could just be the smoke making them stay home. When we reached there we were fresh out of breath. Ridiculous. A few blocks, and we were extremely exhausted.
Me and my cousin were sharing the same thoughts. " It's got to be the smoke" we said at the same time. "Yeah, the smoke" we blamed.
" Or maybe we just got wimpier?" my cousin joked gasping for breath.
"Right..." i whispered being sarcastic.
We sat down on the couch thinking to ourselves. Suddenly, my cousins phone rings breaking the silence.
A text message appears. " Alex! Your near the park you play in right? I want you to go to Alvin's house. Remember the war thats going on, right? Yeah, it seems that the battlefield of the war is extending to your direction. There still far. So don't worry, im coming there to pick you guys up."
Alex stares at me with heavily locked eyes " What? What did he just say? War? Here? Are you crazy?! This is-"
" Calm down. Your dad says he is coming to pick us up soon and the Battlefield is still far. We'll be safe. Chill " I interrupted his rage.
" Are you high or something?! What about my house? Your house?! Our stuff?! I have alot of stuff you know! What will happen to them?!" Alex yelled.
" I dunno, get burnt down by grenades i guess. Seriously dude, your life is more important than this crap" i replied and sat down on the couch.
Not long later, a car stops outside my house, screeching to a stop, as if it were going 1 million miles per hour. Alex's dad gestured his hands, which i assumed directed me to get in the car now. We quickly boarded the car. Alex then bombarded his dad with a series of questions. I listened, as i had the same questions.
" Where are we going? Away from the battlefield? Where?" i asked.
" The military has sent A whole lot of planes to evacuate us all in this area." he replied.
Evacuate. I should of expected, the most logical solution to a situation like this. As we were driving to the evacuation point, i started hearing gun shots. As we drove further the sound got louder. I started to get paranoid.
I asked, " Uh, are you sure we're heading away from the battlefield, cause-"
" Yeah, im starting to get skeptical myself, but i'm pretty sure we're heading the right way...Shaymon Avenue, yeah no doubt about it" he replied.
Okay, relax. I trust this guy. At least, for the time being. I did not know him very well though. I can't seem to interpret the situation, but whatever. As long as his sure.
The car stops in front of an enormous warehouse, it looked big enough to shelter everyone in the city. Then again, our city was small, its possible to know everyone who lived there. I wasn't familiar with this warehouse, so i searched around for anything that could help me identify this warehouse. I find a warning sign, it showed: Warning: Forbidden to the public, for authorized personal only. I started getting extremely skeptical about things.
" Guys, lets go, we're going into the warehouse" Alex's dad instructed.
" Woaaah. This thing is humongous. I could fit 1 million houses in here!" Alex whispered in amusement.
As we walked closer, i noticed cars parked unevenly everywhere around, as if people were in a rush to get something. Suddenly, i heard a gun shot again. It was coming from inside the warehouse.
Alex's dad stopped. " Gunshots... Guys stay back im going to take a look inside and see if the coast is clear.
He puts his firm hand on the cold door knob and slowly turns it, pushing his body cautiously against the door. As the door opened, it made a low creaky sound. My skepticism rose instinctively. The door revealed a narrow pathway accompanied by flickering lights and dirty water spilled across the floor with only the sound of drops of water. Alex's dad walks in audaciously. As he reached a corner, he lay his body against the wall to stealthily peek whats ahead. He continues walking. I assumed the coast was clear...so far.
It started to rain.
We waited not longer than three minutes when we finally saw him return to sight. He runs towards me in incredible speed. When he reached me i noticed his melancholic expression on his face.
He looks at me and my cousin. " They... took our evacuation point. This is where we were suppose to wait to get evacuated... but...ugh... they took it. They reached here before us... and... we were the last ones...of this town to reach the evacuation point" he looked up at the gray sky and closed his eyes, rain falling upon his face.
We were the last ones? What does he mean? No, it can't be! The whole town was here, inside the warehouse before us. The warehouse, where all the gunshots are coming from! Was this his indirect way of telling me this?! That everybody in our town have been massacred inside that warehouse when awaiting for evacuation?! I did my best to not think so.
" So, what does this mean?" I asked trying to keep my self mentally strong.
" They're all gone..." he whispered.
" No, no! No!!" Alex screamed falling to his knees, splashing the wet, damp ground below him. He looked up at the sky, rain flowing lazily down his cheeks.
After a long minute, Alex whispered melancholic " So, what now?".
" I don't know." his dad replied, almost crying.
I too tried my best not to cry. It was hard. The depressing rainy atmosphere just made it even harder. I looked up at the rainy sky.
War. A gamble lost, at the cost of everyone, everyone Alex knew, everyone his dad knew, everyone I knew. At the cost of their unfinished lives. Killed, their lives filled with regrets and goals yet to achieve. War, something i thought never could happen to my country, but it has, taking the lives of everyone in its way. My definition of war has changed. Death and depression, wars inevitable result.
After we were done thinking our own thoughts, Alex's dad stood up.
" So, guys-" he was interrupted by the sound of watery foot steps.
We all turned around to look. There it was. Death staring at us straight in the face. A enemy soldier stood there, gun pointing at me. Two laser pointers were pointed at the head of Alex and his dad. There they were in the windows. Snipers, ready to kill behind the shadows. Gunshot. Both snipers shot. Alex, and his dad. Their foreheads drilled. Blood splashed upon my terrified face. They both dropped to the ground. Alex lifts his shaky hand towards the sky, and it slowly drops. The rain pounding on his cold flesh. I was next. I looked at the soldier that has not shot yet. And boom.
Gunshot. For a split second, time slowed down, the bullet zooming towards me. Three words whispered in my head. Wars... inevitable... result. I felt pain, i dropped towards the ground, with only my blood-stained hand in sight. I slowly closed my eyes.
